Grace Staskiewicz, 95, Tiverton

Grace (Shea) Staskiewicz, 95, of Tiverton and formerly of Portsmouth and Holiday, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at Crestwood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Warren. She was the wife of the late John J. Staskiewicz, Sr., with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his passing in 2005.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Shea and Bernadette (Dessert) Shea. She was a graduate of Durfee High School, class of 1942. 

Grace is survived by her grandson, Timothy Staskiewicz of Randolph, Mass.; her grandson, Daniel Staskiewicz and his fiancée Marianna de Oliveira, of Salvador, Brazil; her granddaughter, Lauren Church and husband Benjamin Church of Swansea; one great-granddaughter, Violet Church; one sister, Gladys Driscoll of Attleboro; and one daughter-in-law, Christine Dunne Staskiewicz of Tiverton. She was the mother of the late John J. Staskiewicz, Jr., who passed away earlier this year, and sister of the late Lillian Auger, Rita Peterson and William, Henry and Raymond Shea.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on October 12 at 11 a.m. in St. Christopher’s Church, 1584 Main Road, Tiverton. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in St. Christopher’s prior to the Mass. Burial will be private.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
