EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls' basketball team picked up a much needed win over Tiverton Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27, in the opening round of the Charlie Gwynne Holiday Invitational hosted by next-door neighbor Providence Country Day.

The Townies were some 25 points better than the Tigers, earning their first win overall in the early going of the 2022-23 season after opening up the year with three lop-sided league losses in Division I games.

The victory sets up a date with the host Knights for the Gwynne tourney title Wednesday, Dec. 28, at noon. East Providence is the defending  champs having defeated Kimball Union and Wheeler en route to the 2021 Gwynne championship.
