CRANSTON (Updated, 4:55 p.m., January 15) — The Cranston Police Department announced a missing young girl had been found as of late afternoon, Jan. 15.

The CPD issued the following statement at that time: "The Cranston Police would like to thank the media for their prompt response and assistance in providing the photo of the missing 10 year old girl.

"The response as a result of the media coverage was absolutely remarkable. We received an outpouring of support and offers of assistance along with countless calls from the community into our dispatch center with tips that were being followed up on all day long.

"Thank you again for your assistance and this teamwork led to an excellent outcome that we all hoped for, which was to find her safe and return her to her family. She is currently being evaluated and appears to be in good health."

Earlier in the day, the CPD requested media and residents in neighboring municipalities help in its quest for find a missing 10-year-old girl.

The CPD was actively searching for  Jania McDuffie who was last seen in the Pontiac Avenue area near Beeckman Avenue. Jania's picture was being distributed to the local media in hopes it can be released to assist us in locating her. Her picture and information was also on the Cranston Police Facebook page.

Jania was described as a light skinned hispanic female last seen wearing a grey shirt with a bulldog on the front and camouflage tight pants.

There was no immediate signs of foul play and she is believed to have run away at this point. Cranston Police Detectives have been actively searching for Jania since she was reported missing last night.
