Carl E. “Sandy” Sanderson, 90, passed on January 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Carl graduated from Somerset High School in 1949, attended the Univ. of North Georgia. He joined the U.S. Army, serving two years in the Korean War.  He was a stationary engineer for Montaup Electric, and later a successful insurance agent for 28 years.

He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Harrison. They lived in Tiverton, RI, where they raised four children. Their home was the place for celebrations, holidays, and the annual 4th of July clam bake. They later moved to Leesburg, FL, enjoying sunshine, new friends, and singing karaoke.  After 53 years, Joyce passed.  Sandy met Virginia “Ginny” Cleaves.  The two enjoyed a loving partnership for 12 years.

Carl was twice inducted into the Somerset High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  He coached little league, served as President of the Southeast MA Umpire Association and the National Association of Sports Officiating.

He served his town as Chairman of the Tiverton School Committee, Tax Assessor, Budget Committee, Tiverton Lions Club, and Statewide Chairman of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Committee.

Carl is survived by his children Carl J. Sanderson, Sheri A. Massa, Leah J. (Sanderson) Kilborn, Amy E. Sanderson; five grandchildren, Kyle A. Pimental, Kayla R. Barrett, Colin R. Massa, Cassie J. Sanderson, Garret J. Sanderson; and two great grandchildren, Owen and Aurora.  There will be a memorial service to honor his life, at Holy Trinity Church in Tiverton, RI at a later date to be announced by Connors funeral home.

A ”Go Fund Me” page has been setup…….The Carl Sanderson Memorial Fund……….. raising funds to support improvements to the Fort Barton baseball field for the Tiverton Little League.

When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
