Schools need help, as students go back to full in-person learning

The Barrington School Department is looking for people to work as lunch monitors at Barrington Middle School and Barrington High School. The additional staffing is needed as students in those schools return to full in-person learning on April 26 and May 3.

“…an important component to the reopening of our secondary schools is the supervision of our students during their lunch periods,” wrote Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore in a recent email. “We need lunch monitors to help us achieve this goal.”

Students in grades 7, 8, 9 and 12 will return to five-days-a-week in-person learning on April 26, and students in grades 10 and 11 will go full in-person on May 3. The district is still allowing students to remain in distance learning or in the hybrid model if they so choose.

The schools are adding more lunch periods and locations for students to eat, as they work to maintain social distancing during those times. In an effort to meet the necessary staffing levels, the school department is hiring more

“Due to students being spread out across the school, there is a need for more staff to assist with supervision,” Mr. Messore wrote.

“As a district employee, you would be eligible to receive a RI COVID vaccination.”

Lunch monitor responsibilities include assist in delivering pre-ordered student lunches from the cafeteria to classrooms; monitoring students during their lunch periods; ensuring Covid-19 safety protocols are being followed; communicating questions and concerns to administration; and respecting the confidentiality of the students.
