The Wood Street neighborhood was once a thriving center of Bristol, and it’s making a comeback. Area residents will celebrate their Wood Street Pride this weekend.
The first Wood Street Pride event is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 21 from noon to 5 p.m. Mosaico CDC, which runs the Bristol Industrial Park, and the Common Pub are joining together to sponsor the pride event, which will feature flea market tables, food, live music and games for the kids. The organizers are inviting the public to head to the celebration to check out the improvements — aesthetic and otherwise — that have been made to the neighborhood. The Industrial Park itself is undergoing a transformation, with new manufacturers, artists and service organizations moving in all the time.
Organizers invite guests to “see for yourself the improvements being made to the Bristol Industrial Park and the neighborhood storefronts,” as well as browse and shop at the flea market tables while listening to the live music of “CBGB,” “Mease,” “No Promises” and “Stone Free,” a Jimi Hendrix tribute band.
The menu will be prepared by the Common Pub’s Courtney Poissant, “whose culinary skills are no longer the neighborhood’s best kept secret,” organizers said.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Wood Street Improvement Grant Fund, which helps pay for neighborhood improvements to benefit businesses and residents.
The organizers are still looking for sponsors and flea market vendors. Any business or organization, or just someone cleaning out their closet, can set up a table in the flea market for $25 to sell their stuff or just share information about their organization.
