A Westport woman faces numerous charges after she allegedly assaulted a police officer investigating a road rage incident on Route 177 Friday evening.

Amy Hoesterey, 38, of 140 Robert St., was arrested Friday, March 10, and faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (her car), assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and resisting arrest.

Police were dispatched to Route 177, near Robert Street, at 6:40 p.m. for a report of road rage and assault and battery. The unnamed complainant told police that he/she was driving when a driver later identified as Hoesterey struck his/her car. The complainant followed her to Robert Street, where both cars stopped. The victim told police that when they stopped, the woman exited her car, punched him/her in the face several times and attempted to strangle him/her. She then left, the victim said.

Police located Hoesterey at her home, and said that as they spoke to her she appeared intoxicated and was unsteady on her feet. Police said she became aggressive and walked toward one of the officers, knocking his hands away. As police attempted to place her under arrest, they said she resisted before being restrained and cuffed. Prior to being placed in a cruiser, police said she struck an officer with her knee.
