Patrick McCrann is excited to begin his work for the Barrington School Committee. 

Mr. McCrann was one of three Democrats and first-time candidates to earn seats on the school committee during the Nov. 6 election. Mr. McCrann, Gina Bae and Erika Sevetson will join current school committee members Dr. Megan Douglas and Anna Clancy. 

"I'm very excited," said Mr. McCrann, just minutes after results were posted. "I'm a little nervous, but I think that's part of it. You just don't know what's out there. There's so much to be done. It's a little daunting to think that I'm on the other side of the table … but that's how it works."

Mr. McCrann has been an active contributor at school committee meetings for some time. He has spoken out on a variety of topics, including changing school start times. 

On election night, Mr. McCrann said one of his first actions on the school committee will be to bring two-tier busing to Barrington schools. 

"Let's get that going," he added.

A recent transportation study commissioned by the school district noted that a move to two-tier busing in Barrington schools would be possible and have a relatively minimal cost. The district currently has three-tier busing, with the high school and middle school having the earliest pickup times, followed by the K-3 elementary schools, and finally Hampden Meadows. 

When asked if his first experience running for a public office was a positive one, Mr. McCrann answered "Absolutely."
