If the money is right, Westport Town Administrator Tim King will sign a one year contract extension but this one will be his last.

Asked by a member of the Board of Selectmen at the September 30 meeting about his intentions beyond that extension, he replied, “I want to retire after one year. I’ll be 68, I’ll be ready to retire. It has been a pleasure to work here but we all need to go sometime.”

Selectmen voted unanimously to approve the extension subject to agreement on salary. This new extension will expire June 30, 2021.

“We appreciate the heads up,” selectman Steven Ouellette said, since the town has a lot of important issues to deal with, among them the process for making the move from an elected to an appointed town treasurer and straightening out that office.

Mr. King landed the Westport job in 2014 after serving as assistant town administrator for Wellfleet on Cape Cod — he still lives on the Cape.

In applying for the Westport post to replace the retiring interim Town Administrator Jack Healey, he said he had 27 years of senior level town and city management experience including town and city administrator jobs in the states of Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He was town manager of Ellsworth, Maine, for 13 years.

Mr. King holds a master’s degree in public administration from Penn State University.
