WESTPORT — A New Bedford woman faces charges including drunk driving after she allegedly drove over a motorcyclist in Fall River and then crashed her car into a building and a guardrail in Westport.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, at approximately 9:32 p.m., Westport officers Jarrod Levesque, Douglas Wenson and Luc Sauve were dispatched to the area of State Road and White’s of Westport for a motor vehicle crash with injuries.  Dispatch informed the officers that the Fall River Police Department was searching for a vehicle that had left the scene of a crash on Brayton Avenue — it was unclear whether this was the same vehicle as was involved in the Westport crash.

Upon Officer Levesque arrived to find a black Pontiac G5 with its rear bumper against the guardrail in the eastbound lane with heavy front end and passenger side damage to the vehicle. The airbags had deployed.

The officer said he found a woman, identified as Kristin Medeiros , 46, of 109 South Second Street, New Bedford, sitting on the guardrail by the driver’s door. He determined that she was the driver of the vehicle.

The officer said that when he asked her what had happened, Ms. Medeiros said she was coming from St. John’s Club in Fall River when another vehicle cut her off which caused the crash.

Police said they were able to confirm that Ms. Medeiros’ car was the one involved in the crash at the intersection of Brayton Avenue and Route 24, Fall River.  A motorcyclist had been struck and run over, police said, and the vehicle that hit the motorcycle had fled into Westport.  The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A witness from St. John’s Club arrived and told Officer Levesque that “she had seen Ms. Medeiros at the club and she could barely walk.  Others at the club were in the process of getting Ms.. Medeiros a taxi when she made her way to her vehicle,” police said.  After leaving the St. John’s Club, the witness said that Ms. Medeiros fell while attempting to get into her vehicle and struck her head.  She then sped off, struck a curb but continued to drive, the witness told police.

Officer Sauve determined that, while headed east on State Road in Westport, Ms.. Medeiros’ car  struck a guardrail and then a building at 95 State Road.  Parts from her vehicle were found there.  The vehicle continued a short distance east before striking another guardrail, police said.

Westport Fire Department paramedics transported Ms. Medeiros to St. Anne’s Hospital for evaluation.  She  was then taken to the Westport Police Department and charged with operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence and destruction of property over $1,200. She also faces charges in Fall River.
