It’s official — Westport has now approved its second marijuana dispensary, right next door to the town's only other.
Members of the Westport Select Board Monday evening approved a host community agreement that will allow an Uxbridge man to open a marijuana dispensary at 260 State Road. The site is just to the east of Coastal Healing, previously the town’s only approved dispensary.
Brian Carney, who owns a dispensary in Uxbridge and several in New York, plans to open Port Supply on the site and said his business model will make him competitive with other dispensaries in the area.
As part of the host community agreement, Westport will receive three percent of gross revenue in taxes, as well as a possible three percent impact fee required by the state, that is meant to offset any negative impacts from the business on the Westport community.
The select board’s vote comes about four months after members of the Westport Planning Board voted unanimously to grant a special permit to Carney’s Salty Breeze Inc., a business group made up of principals who own several gas stations and liquor stores in the Fall River, Dartmouth and Westport areas.
