EAST PROVIDENCE — One person died and another was injured in a two-car crash, one from the East Providence Department of Public Works/Highway Division, on Veterans Memorial Parkway Thursday, July 18.

East Providence Police identified the deceased as 38-year-old Shanika Coulter of Warwick.

According to the report of Captain Michael Rapoza, the department's Operations Division Commander/Public Information Officer, at approximately 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash that involved a vehicle the city's Highway Department.

Once on scene, the officers found the female operator of a black Jeep SUV with serious injuries and began treatment. A rescue vehicle from the East Providence Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter, taking over the medical response and transporting her to Rhode Island Hospital where she was later pronounce dead.

A passenger in the city vehicle was also transported to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries. The operator of the truck was not transported to the hospital.

The EPPS Traffic Division and accident reconstructionists continue investigating the crash. The city employees that were involved in the crash were both treated with the one in hospital released released shortly with minor injuries.
