Warren DPW Director Brian Wheeler was in a particularly good mood Tuesday morning outside of their headquarters on Birch Swamp Road, because today was a special day.
It is the start of pothole filling season for the crew. Even more exciting was that it was the inaugural rollout of the Town’s new asphalt trailer, a state-of-the-art machine purchased last year that can hold two tons of pothole-filling patch and replaces a 20-year-old unit that was so outdated it could no longer be legally insured.
The new trailer has a bunch of special features, Wheeler said, including the ability to store hot and cold patch overnight due to an automated temperature regulation system, which will enable the department to be at the ready for pothole repairs throughout the year.
Wheeler said that although it took longer than he’d like to get the new machine registered, it will now be heading out throughout town in the coming weeks to fill potholes for as long as the weather allows. Touisset residents will be the lucky recipients of the first batch of pothole repairs.
“We’re a public works department, and we should be at the ready to deal with works for the good of the public,” Wheeler said.
