Warren volunteers feed nearly 400 on Thanksgiving

American Legion food drive delivers full meals to the needy

A fleet of volunteers and a fleet of cars delivered nearly 400 meals to the needy Thanksgiving afternoon, running the operation out of St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Warren. The volunteers, led by Warren resident Judith Fardig and the Warren Unit #11 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

“We got such a great response,” Ms. Fardig said around 10 a.m. Saturday, standing in the church basement before the full rush of meal preparation took place.

In all, residents in Warren and beyond donated more than 100 turkeys to the cause. It was more than volunteers needed for the effort, so dozens were donated to the Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen and Crossroads in Providence. The rest were packed up, along with all the fixings and delivered to the needy in Warren, Barrington, Bristol, Riverside and Central Falls. Several dozen residents who would otherwise not had a Thanksgiving dinner also ate in the basement.
