Warren to raise Black Lives Matter flag Friday morning

The Town of Warren will raise the Black Lives Matter flag in front of town hall Friday morning, with officials and dignitaries holding a small ceremony to mark the occasion. It begins at 10 a.m.

The Warren Town Council voted unanimously earlier this month, with council John Hanley absent, to raise the flag on one of town hall’s two poles. It will hang below the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations flag; the town’s other flag pole flies the United States and POW flags.

In raising the flag, Warren follows the lead of Bristol, which hoisted the banner last month. Councilors will discuss how long it should fly at their next scheduled meeting this coming Tuesday. They also agreed at the previous meeting to raise the flag in February in honor of Black History Month.
