Sisters win Warren Holiday Festival raffle

Council president praises festival: 'We have a lot to be proud about'

Katelyn Morton and her younger sister Jillian have the treats bases covered, after they found out last week that Katelyn won the Warren Holiday Festival's scavenger hunt raffle and her sister, another prize.

Katelyn won a year's worth of free pizza from Balasco's, and Jillian a gift certificate to The Sweet Shop. Between the two prizes, their mother said, the sisters are very happy:

"Pizza is Katelyn's favorite so they were excited" to hear about the prize, said their mother Amy.

The raffle ran in conjunction with a downtown scavenger hunt held Saturday, Nov. 28, the second day of the Warren Holiday Festival. Attendees were given a map which contained clues to help navigate them to one of 12 waypoints in downtown Warren.

Everyone who successfully found all 12 locations was entered into the drawing, and festival organizer Marilyn Mathison randomly selected the winners' names from a pool of about 70 entries last Wednesday.

Despite severe restrictions imposed on it due to the Covid-19 crisis, the holiday festival was a huge hit this year. Residents lit their homes in unison at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27 and Santa visited every neighborhood in Warren that night, making the rounds in fire department trucks.

Last Tuesday, Warren Town Council president Keri Cronin said she was proud of Warren and how residents, the town and Ms. Mathison came together to welcome in the holiday season.

"Marilyn really did herself and the entire community proud with the entire festival and the scavenger hunt, which was an amazing success," she said.

Ms. Cronin also singled out the fire department for driving Santa around all night, as well as the DPW, police department and all of Ms. Mathison's volunteer helpers.

"I think we have a lot to be proud about in our little community," she said.
