Warren resident seeks help with vet bills for injured dog

Posted

A Child Street resident has taken to the internet to help procure money to pay for a surgery for her beloved Chihuahua, Harley Quinn, after an incident in February resulted in the small pooch losing an eye.

The tragic accident took place on Feb. 20, according to Harley’s owner, Tina Dean, when her other dog, Rosie, got too aggressive while playing and bit Harley on the face.

“I think she just got a little rough, and she forgot who she was playing with,” Dean said of the 45-pound Rosie. “She bit at her face and she caught her eyeball and yanked it right out. It was horrible.”

Dean said that, thankfully, the talented vets at Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services in Swansea were quick to admit Harley and save her from a worse fate. But there was no saving the poor pup’s eye. As a result, Dean is facing a $3,000 vet bill for Harley’s surgery and medications, and started up an online fundraiser on AngelLink.com to try and get help from her friends and community.

“Those of you that know me know she is my whole heart. I have had her for all six years of her young life and she is my joy,” Dean wrote in the fundraiser bio. “It kills me to ask for help but I need your help to pay for this and bring my baby back home. She is everything to me. Just not being able to hold her right now is killing me. So I am begging for help. I cannot lose my baby. She is my sanity, my happiness, my love. Please consider helping me. Not a dime is for me.”

That fundraiser approached $2,000 of a $3,000 goal as of Monday. Dean said that Harley has been able to return home since the fundraiser went online.

“I think it’s amazing,” Dean said of the support gathered thus far. “I have a lot of good people in my life.”

Dean said that the horrible incident was a reminder for dog owners to always keep a watchful eye on big dogs, especially when they’re playing with other large dogs around smaller dogs.

“It was just a freak accident, but it was terrifying,” she said. “Just be careful with big dogs around little dogs.”
