Warren resident Jay Blackbeard wrote this e-mail to Warren Town Council president Keri Cronin, and councilor John Hanley, on Thursday:

I write to you to voice my concern regarding the make-up, but specifically the head of, the Board of Canvassers. 

Let me start by saying for transparency that I am a an unaffiliated voter, but do tend to vote in Democratic primaries. With the election looming, and a nationwide concern regarding the validity of the vote, I must say that it alarmed me when I was made aware of a social media comment made by the Chair of said board, a public employee. In the post he voices obvious derision towards "liberals" and this makes me question his impartiality regarding the upcoming election. Further, he uses racist language in describing the former First Lady of this country, and as a resident of the town that Mr Calenda serves, I absolutely cannot abide bigotry or deliberate divisiveness from a public appointee. I would appreciate a response regarding what action you plan to take in ensuring a fair election as well as any statement on the Chair's words. 

Secondly, your Vice-Chair, I am told, is related to someone running for School Committee. I admit that I am no expert, but as a layman this seems to be an obvious conflict. I would appreciate any clarification you have on this matter too.
