The following is a compilation of calls answered by the Warren Police Department between September 23 and October 5:
Monday, Sept. 23
Warren Police Department officers responded to a call of an "Animal Complaint" in the area of Barton Street, where three pigs were loose. The owner of the pigs was contacted and responded.
Tuesday, Sept. 24
A WPD officer responded to a call to assist another department. Notification was made to registered owner to return and retrieve a mattress she left without permission at the Blue Wave Car Wash. The officer spoke to female reports she will return and retrieve the mattress.
Wednesday, Sept. 25
Warren public safety personnel responded to a gas leak on Main Street early Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, after a workers accidentally struck a gas line during a construction project.
The Warren Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene at approximately 8:41 a.m., according to WFD Chief James Sousa. “We checked gas readings in all neighboring households. No leakages were found,” he said.
The workers who hit the gas service line were subcontracting on the project being conducted by the Bristol County Water Authority. Rhode Island Energy was called to the scene to shut down the leak. Fire and police officials secured the location.
Traffic along Main Street by the intersection of Broad Street was briefly closed down to one lane before repair work was completed in the area, according to WPD Chief Roy Borges.
Reached for comment later in the day, BCWA Executive Director Steve Couto explained the contractor, Dewcon, "was in the process of rehabbing a water service and struck an unmarked gas service line" and that the local authorities "responded accordingly."
Thursday, Sept. 26
WPD responded to a call of a "Civil Dispute" on Metacom Avenue. Temale caller requested to speak to an officer in regard to an issue she had with her neighbor smoking in the apartment building. The officer on scene said the female caller was advised of her option as well as it being a civil matter.
Friday, Sept. 27
WPD personnel responded to a pair of "Harassment" complaints in the same general vicinity. The first complainant reported neighborhood kids ringing her doorbell and looking through her windows. A second complaint was about a group of juveniles ringing doorbells and banging on windows.
Officers were called to the scene of an accident after RIPTA ride bus appeared to have struck a utility pole. Rhode Island Energy was advised.
Saturday, Sept. 28
WPD responded to an "Animal Complaint" call on Baker Street. A woman reported her dog was struck by a passing vehicle while she was walking him. She said the dog ran into the street and was off the leash. She was not sure if the
operator was aware of striking the canine, but wanted the police to know what happened. The dog appeared to be unharmed.
Monday, Sept. 30
Warren Police responded to a call of property damage on Cutler Street where the owner of a vehicle claimed two tires on their vehicle had been slashed. A report was taken and filed.
Responding to a noise complaint on Shore Drive, officers were told of contractors at a neighboring home being too loud and dust being left all over the complainant's yard. The officer on call spoke to a worker, who said there were two days remaining on the project and that they would hose off stone wall and be mindful of the
complaints.
Officers arrested a juvenile suspect, 16, on an outstanding warrant for the following charges: domestic violence - first degree sexual assault; domestic violence - assault by strangulation; domestic violence - simple assault and/or battery - 1st offense; domestic violence - simple assault and/or battery - 1st offense; and domestic violence - simple assault and/or battery - 1st offense.
Tuesday, Oct. 1
Police responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of Child and Cole Streets. Upon arrival, the complainant said a male was threatening to return with gun and shoot them. Police later arrested a 31-year-old male with no known address and charged him with disorderly conduct.
Wednesday, Oct. 2
Police were called to a Main Street location for reported property damage. The complainant told the officer the door handle to front door had been removed and someone
placed concrete in the handle spot. The property manager later told the officer the door in question is under repair by a contractor.
Thursday, Oct. 3
Police were called to the scene on Brownell Street and Bay View Avenue for an alleged altercation between dogs. The complainant claimed his canine was attacked in the above area.
Information was obtained from the owner of the attacking canine and would will respond to police headquarters with documentation after visiting the veterinarian.
Friday, Oct. 4
During a routine motor vehicle stop at approximately 4:06 p.m., police eventually arrested the driver of the car, a 34-year-old Providence man, on a charge of driving with a suspended/revoked/cancelled license-fourth + offense.
Police were called to the scene on Market Street at about 11:53 p.m. for a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, the officer found two men in the back of the location by a boat, one was unresponsive due to suspected intoxication. The man was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment/evaluation.
Saturday, Oct. 5
A 58-year-old East Providence woman was arrested at approximately 12:53 a.m. by a Warren Police officer following a motor vehicle stop at Market and John Streets. She was charged with DUI of liquor - blood alcohol concentration unknown - 1st offense; refusal to submit chemical test. The woman was arraigned and released to the custody of her husband.
