Warren’s annual Holiday Festival returns to form this weekend, with events taking place over two days. Festivities begin Friday with the arrival of Santa on Water Street via fire truck. The street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Miller and Church streets, where people can enjoy fire spinners, hot chocolate and hot cider. The Mt. Hope Marching Band will lead a countdown to the illumination of Water Street and the town’s tree around 7:15 p.m., and then lead a march of all attendees towards Town Hall to receive welcoming remarks and countdown to the lighting of Main Street.

On Saturday, Santa returns at noon on the fire truck and will wind up at a to-be-announced location for a scavenger hunt. Locations around downtown will have activities for kids, and Blount Fine Foods will serve hot cups of mac and cheese.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
