This email was sent from Warren Town Council president Keri Cronin to resident Jay Blackbeard Thursday, after he inquired about insensitive comments made on line by Vincent Calenda, chairman of the Warren Board of Cavassers.
Dear Mr. Blackbeard,
Thank you for your outreach and statement of concern. I too became aware of the unfortunate, unpleasant and unacceptable comment Mr. Calenda made on a Facebook post last night and have copied Town Solicitor Anthony DeSisto on this reply to be sure he is aware of the situation.
As an elected leader, Democrat and citizen voter in the Town of Warren, I will emphatically say that Mr. Calenda's words do not reflect me, the Town or the party I am affiliated with (Calenda is a registered Democrat too). His statement is both disappointing and offensive and in direct conflict with the resolution unanimously adopted by the Town Council on behalf of the Town of Warren (attached) which commits to being anti-racist.
I cannot tell you what the Council plans to do until there is public discussion and action. As this is new territory, the timing on that is unknown at the moment.
The Vice Chair of the Board of Canvassers should recuse themselves from any action or activity that would impact a candidate for the school committee to whom they are related. If this policy has not been followed, it should be reported to the State Board of Elections.
Respectfully,
Keri Cronin
