The Barrington High School Jazz Ensemble will be hosting a Jazz Band from Germany on March 8 and 9.

Both the Barrington High School band and the Phoenix Foundation Jazz Orchestra will attend the RI Music Educators Jazz Festival on Saturday at URI and will give a concert at the High School at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. The German students are being hosted by members of the Barrington Jazz Ensemble.

The Phoenix Foundation Jazz Orchestra is from the Rhineland region of Germany and is composed of teenagers and college students who are advanced jazz musicians. The band is under the direction of Frank Reichert.

“We are so excited to host the Phoenix Foundation band,” said Barb Hughes, Director of Bands at Barrington High School. “They are an outstanding group of musicians and a great example of high quality musicianship for my students. We also love being able to share the music we love with our peers from another culture.”

The Phoenix Foundation Jazz Orchestra is supported by the Goethe Foundation and has traveled to many locations around the world.
