Vincent J. Millard, 74, loved spending time in his garden. It was there that he suffered a fall that ended his life on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

A son of the late Rev. Dr. Charles E. and Mildred Lowney Millard, he was born and raised in Warren, and most recently was a resident of Little Compton.

Vincent attended the Portsmouth Abbey School, graduating in 1964, then graduated from Johns Hopkins University. He moved to New York City where he worked for the law firm Howard, Smith, & Levin. He also found work in television and film, appearing in productions including the long-running soap opera Search for Tomorrow and the film Network.

He returned to Rhode Island about 3 decades ago, earned his masters degree from Providence College and launched a successful and gratifying career as a substance abuse counselor, most recently serving clients at Stepping Stones in Fall River.

Vincent was a devoted son, brother, and parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. In addition to gardening, he was an avid runner and cyclist; he enjoyed classical arts and music, and was active in historic preservation. He was also very fond of his dog Mollie; they were inseparable.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Catherine Topp (Thomas); brothers Charles E. Millard, Jr. (Mary), John F. Millard (Maria Horvath), Daniel J. Millard, Timothy J. Millard (Lisa), and James M. Millard (Kris); as well as nieces Christy Nadalin, Cara Cromwell, MaryElise Topp, Greer Millard, Ella Millard and nephew T.C. Topp. He was an honorary uncle to Nathan, Andrew and Michael Chartier.

If friends would like to make a donation in Vincent’s memory, please consider Stepping Stones, 134 Durfee St., Fall River, MA 02720; or Catholic Charities, 1 Cathedral Square, Providence, RI 02903.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Warren.

Calling hours will be held Friday, June 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren.

Burial will take place in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon St., Warren.

Please visit the Smith Funeral and Memorial website at wjsmithfh.com for information and online condolences.
