Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share the home in Bucks County, PA, where they grew up. Dogged by regret, they bicker about the circumstances of the lives they cannot escape. Suddenly, their movie-star sister Masha swoops in like a hurricane with her much younger boy toy, Spike. Meanwhile, cleaning-woman Cassandra, who (with somewhat dubious accuracy) can predict the future, foresees a threat to the stability of Vanya and Sonia’s lives. While long-simmering conflicts boil to the surface, Spike meets and introduces the family to aspiring young actress Nina, whom Masha sees as a potential rival for Spike’s affections. The house is thrust into chaos as its residents and visitors get swept up in an intoxicating mixture of lust, rivalry, disappointment, and the sudden possibility of escape in Christopher Durang’s sharp, funny, and surprisingly touching comedy.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
