Unified bowling celebrates a strikingly fun season

The Bristol Warren Huskies Unified Bowling team recently concluded their 2023 season with a state championship tournament, held in Johnston on March 18. The hometown Huskies were divided into 8 teams, and each team earned a gold, silver, or bronze ranking by the end of the tournament.

Earning gold were the Spare Wars (Matt Blouin, Dayna Angel, Aurelio DaSilveira, and Gary Rianna); the Imperial Strikers (Ashley Hicks, Gabriella Sauro, Justin Maturi, Zach Rianna); Bowlieve It or Not (Mason Conte, Mara Machado, Jonathan DaPonte, and Dianne DaPonte); and A-Team (Scott Russell, Samantha Russell, Donte DaCosta, and Jayde DaCosta).

Earning silver were the Phantom Strikers (Nicholas Fartura, Brandon Drolet, Ben Teves, and Nuno Amaral-Ponte); and Rolling Thunder (Shannon Bethune, Aurelia Drolet, Hunter Thresher, and Joe Drolet).

The Bowler Bears (Brandon Spear, Dan Brennan, Allison Mosher, and Liz Brennan) and Livin’ on a Spare (Marina Temple, Jeanine Cambra, Diana Halleman, and Tricia Kryzwicki) took home bronze.

Team members were also awarded superlatives for the season, as follows: Highest Average - Donte DaCosta; Highest Individual String - Jeanine Cambra; Most Improved - Mason Conti; Most Strikes - Zach Rianna; Most Consistent - Diana Halleman; Good Sportsmanship - Marina Temple; and Unified Partners - Ben Teves & Nuno Amaral.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
