Little Compton

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: Active, Accountable, Leadership My name is Travis Auty and I’m running for LCSC to ensure there is a continued dialog and an open forum of ideas for parents, teachers, and students. Collectively we need to discuss the challenges and solutions we face as a community as we navigate the 21st Century and the opportunities it presents. My wife Katlyn and I feel fortunate to be able to raise our growing family here in Little Compton. We chose Little Compton for 3 reasons. Family, Education, and Environment. Family will always be first, and to be down the street from our support system is priceless and something we are blessed to have. Education has given Katlyn and I a life we are grateful for. We are both the product of public schools and public universities and felt Little Compton offers one of if not the strongest K-12 tracks in the state. This was incredibly important to us as we believe quality schools coincide with strong communities, which gives all residents a will to contribute and sense of belonging. Finally the farm coast is one of the most unique environments on the eastern seaboard. We need to continue to teach our children how to utilize and protect the resources which provide sustenance and joy too so many. We want our children to not just be good stewards to our community but strong global citizens. I will be an ally to our teachers, a voice for our parents, and a champion for our children. I humbly ask for your support in this year’s general election.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
