Katie Solitro, coach of the East Providence High School Softball team and the Math Department Coordinator at Riverside Middle School, was recently named the RIHSS Division 1 Softball Coach of the Year during their recent awards night. Solitro led the young Townies team to an eighth place finish in D1 play and a spot in the playoffs, where they beat Prout but ultimately fell to Pilgrim.

City Council President Bob Rodericks shared the news on his Facebook page, and Solitro commented her gratitude shortly after.

“Thank you! It takes a village to make things happen and I definitely have one around me with amazing assistant coaches, great parents, incredible players who love the game and so much of my own family support,” she wrote, before passing the recognition onto members of the team who earned awards and honorable mentions during the ceremony. They included:

Ella Grimley - All State honorable mention and 2nd team All Division D1
Emma Boisseau - Third Team All Division 1
Marianna Pina - Third Team All Division 1
Nethania Figueroa - All Division Honorable Mention D1
Mackenzie Pimentel - All Academic award
Trinity Provencher - All Academic award
