Tony Calouro, 69, of Bristol

Tony Calouro, 69, of High Street passed away on Oct. 17, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Almorinda (Couto) Calouro and the late Maria Fatima (DaPonte) Calouro.   

Born in Villa Franca, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Clotilde (Resendes) Calouro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cesar P. Calouro of Bristol and Pamela C. Calouro of Bristol; his grandchildren, Cesar Calouro, Jr., Jacob Calouro, Trayten Calouro, Damon Calouro and Khloee McNeill; and siblings, Maria Payne, Justina Pacheco and Joao Calouro He was the father of the late Milton Calouro and brother of the late Albert Calouro.

Tony was educated in Portugal and employed as a custodian at the former Our Lady of Fatima High School before retiring.

His funeral services were held Oct. 21 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Sandy Lima and Jacob Calouro. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Andrew Calouro. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Walter Pachecho, Joe Pacheco, Ricky Pacheco, Virginio Chaves, Shawn Calouro Allen Payne, Evan Payne and Mike Payne.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
