On leave for a Christmas visit, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine has been in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. The practiced parrying of Eleanor and Henry drives a story of wit and intensity as they wrestle over the fate of his paramour Alais and which of their three sons will fulfill the line of succession.
