The Collaborative to hold oil painting workshops In November

Posted

The Collaborative, a nonprofit arts organization, will be holding an oil painting workshop series for beginners on Wednesdays throughout November. The Alla Prima Floral Painting will be hosted by talented local painter and Collaborative Member Artist, Paula Preti.

Originally from Buenos Aires Argentina, Preti is a mixed media artist who enjoys playing with mediums and exploring through her artwork. Although primarily a painter, Preti has delved into metalsmith jewelry, sculpture, pottery, graphics design, drawing, and so many more mediums to bring her creations to life. Inspired by the juxtaposition of colors and textures of Van Gogh, she hopes to bring a similar stimulating experience to the eye.

“In this workshop, students will learn how to capture the beauty of a floral arrangement using the direct method of painting called alla prima,” said Preti. “This is a workshop for beginners to learn basics of oil painting like mixing colors, the underpainting method, and explore techniques for rendering different surfaces, such as ceramics, glass, metals and organic materials.”

The workshops will run for 4 weeks starting on Wednesday, Nov. 3 and ending Nov. 24. Each session will be 2.5 hours long, 6 to 8:30 p.m., and held at the Collaborative’s new popup gallery space at 4 Market Street in Warren. Pre-registration is required, with a fee of $125 not including materials. A list of materials will be provided upon registration.
