Rhode Island has one of the highest concentrations of seniors in the country, and the senior population is expected to increase by 100,000 individuals by 2030 (U.S. Census Bureau). According to the R.I. Healthy Aging Community profile, 24.8 percent of Bristol’s population is aged 60 years or older, higher than the state average of 20.6 percent. As a Town Councilor, (and a person over 60), I would make it a priority to understand the needs of Bristol’s growing senior population and work with existing agencies across all service areas to address those needs.
We already know, for example, that transportation is a key concern of our older adults, and we need to look to creative and collaborative solutions to meet this need. I am excited about returning as a public servant to impact Bristol’s future. I stand ready to be part of an effective team that will continue improving services for all residents.
