Sweetback Sisters lead Christmas sing-along in Portsmouth

Common Fence Music show sells out

Posted

PORTSMOUTH — The Sweetback Sisters brought their tinsel, lights, wooden soldiers — and their voices — to the 11th annual Country Christmas Singalong Spectacular at Common Fence Music Saturday night.

The sold-out show had audience members singing along to holiday chestnuts such as “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Silent Night,” but also lesser-known songs like “Jing-A-Ling, Jing-A-Ling,” made popular by The Andrew Sisters in 1950.

As with every holiday show hosted by The Sweetback Sisters (Emily Miller and Zara Bode), Christmas trivia — with prizes — was also sprinkled in between songs. (Sample: What was the first song played in outer space? Answer: “Jingle Bells,” which was performed by the crew of Gemini 6 from orbit on Dec. 26, 1965.)

Common Fence Music’s next show moves to Hope & Main in Warren for the New Year’s Eve Folkstravaganza starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Visit www.commonfencemusic.org for more information.

Scroll through the photos above for all the festive fun from Saturday night.
