Music students across town play Star Spangled Banner and Taps

The song was unmistakable.

At noon on Monday, a Barrington High School student stood alone in his yard and filled the quiet with Taps.

The performance, replicated by dozens of local students and more than 1,000 students statewide on Memorial Day, honored veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The idea for the front yard performances came from Rhode Island Music Educators Association and music teachers across Rhode Island who were looking to create a unique musical remembrance to honor the sacrifices of the nation's fallen military heroes.

Many of the music students would have normally played during parades and other activities on Memorial Day, but were unable to do so under the current circumstances.
