Stewart J. Chapman Jr., 90, Seekonk

Stewart J. Chapman Jr., 90, of Pleasant Street, Seekonk passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Evelyn L. (Castro) Chapman.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Stewart J. Sr. and Helen F. (Riley) Chapman.

Mr. Chapman was the Parts Manager and Service Manager for the former Peirce Chevrolet in Pawtucket. After retiring from Peirce Chevrolet he was the head custodian for the Martin School in Seekonk. He was a member of the American Legion, Seekonk Post #311 and AARP. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division, serving thirteen months in combat time from January 1951 to February 1952.

Besides his wife he leaves one stepson, Robert S. Barchi of Pawtucket, five grandchildren, Chavon Chapman, Staci Rogers and her husband Jeff, Sarah Barchi, Robert S. Barchi, Jr. and Joseph J. Barchi, three great grandchildren, Christian James Rogers, Ryan Rebecca Rogers and William Stewart Rogers and one brother, Donald D. Chapman of Mt. Dora, Florida. He was the father of the late Charlene Chapman and brother of the late Raymond F. Chapman.

His funeral services will be private. Arrangements were by Perry-McStay Funeral Home, East Providence.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
