The Barrington High School golf team is the RIIL State Golf Championship runner-up this year.

The Eagles were led by senior standout Claire McTaggart and her brother, sophomore Mitch McTaggart. Claire fired two-day total of 150, while Mitch was right on her heels at 152. Claire finished with rounds of 76 and 74, and Mitch had an 81 and an even-par 71.

The Barrington High School team had a two-day total of 615 at the championship tournament. That was one stroke better than third place Cranston West and 20 shots back from the state champs, LaSalle Academy. Another private school, Bishop Hendricken, finished with a score of 620 and captured fourth place overall.

In addition to the McTaggarts finishing in the top-10 overall — Claire at seventh and Mitch at 10th — Barrington’s Rocco DiMatteo finished 15th with a two-day total of 154. DiMatteo had rounds of 74 and 80. Kenny Lass carded a 156 (77, 79) and finished in 19th, and Emma Lockhart finished 34th overall, with rounds of 78 and 84.

Kevin Arruda and Andre Gil rounded out Barrington’s seven-player lineup. Arruda finished 38th with a 165 (82, 83), while Gil had carded a 162 (81, 81).

In the race for top honors among all the female golfers, Claire McTaggart finished third and Lockhart was fifth. Adriana Eaton, a senior from Moses Brown, finished first with a two-day total of 148.
