'Sparrows and Sweets' at the Audubon on Saturday morning

Posted

Audubon is hosting “Sparrows & Sweets” this Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 to 10 a.m. Visitors can learn about the wide diversity of sparrows that call Caratunk Wildlife Refuge home.

Though they may look similar at first glance, each of these species is unique in their own way. Start the morning with light pastries and coffee in the barn and discuss these birds and how to identify them in the field. Then enjoy a leisurely hike along the trails and put the new skills into practice, observing the sparrows and other wildlife on the refuge.

The fee is $10/member; $5/member child, $7/non-member child $14/non-member. Ages: 12 and up. Register online through the events calendar at asri.org/calendar.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
