Sloan Russel Simpson is a 2020 graduate of Mt. Hope High School.

Recognitions: All State Sports, Class president, Honor Roll, National Honors Society, Other, RI Honor Society, Team Captain

Honors Rhode Island Civic Leadership Award, 2020 Good Citizen of the Year Award, George Washington University Book Award. Received first place for DECA at the Career Development Conference 2017, 2018 and 2018. Won Mr Mt. Hope and received Competency for DECA at Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.

Activities Four year Class President, Executive Board, DECA, President of Best Buddies, Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse, and co-founder of Miss Charity Holiday Pageant where proceeds benefited Hasbro Children Hospital during the Holiday season. Ran tutoring service throughout district and taught Spanish to elementary aged students.

Sports Academic All State and Captain of Lacrosse team in High School.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
