Shrek the Musical, Jr. shares an important lesson

Hampden Meadows School students kick off Arts Alive! season

Arts Alive! will begin its 11th season with performances of Shrek the Musical, Jr. later this month.

Students from Hampden Meadows School will perform the humorous production on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24, 25 and 26. The play, said Arts Alive! Artistic Director Dena Davis, shares an important moral lesson: That it is important to accept people who are different.

"And the title character, who is a green ogre, definitely qualifies as different. It's easy to learn this lesson in a fun and festive production," Ms. Davis said.

The musical is derived from the 2001 animated movie. It features fun dialogue and cheerful entertaining music.

"Indeed, the opening number, 'Big, Bright, Beautiful World,' immediately declares that this kid-friendly musical has a message to impart. Be prepared to laugh until your sides hurt," Ms. Davis said, adding "…the kids from Hampden Meadows will not disappoint! These young actors have been honing their skills since first grade and promise to deliver an incredible performance."
