PORTSMOUTH — The jolly man in the red suit made a grand entrance to the Portsmouth Free Public Library after stepping off a fire truck Sunday night.
The occasion was the library’s 35th annual Christmas Tree Lighting. After Santa helped light the tree outside the building, he headed inside to greet children as they recited their Christmas wish list.
This year, Portsmouth High School student Connor Peckham offered each child a book that he put on display. The book donation was part of his high school senior project.
Also on hand were folks from the Blount Clam Shack in Warren, which offered soup and macaroni and cheese to guests. Cookies and cocoa were also available.
