Samuel C. Kinder, 81, of Portsmouth, R.I, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Steere House in Providence, R.I. He was the beloved husband of Janice S. (Dean) Kinder.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Shirley (Newman) Kinder. He is survived by his devoted children: daughter Elizabeth D. Kinder and husband Zura Grdzelishvili; daughter Charlotte F. Ricci and husband Ben Ricci; and son James C. Kinder. He was blessed to be the grandfather of Elena F. Ricci.

Sam was brother to Peter N. Kinder of Florida, the late Karen K. Borchert of Nantucket, Joseph C. Kinder, Jr. of New York City and Harriet L. Kinder of Bristol. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam was a supportive graduate of Providence Country Day and URI. He was a founding member of the URI rowing team. Sam was the third-generation owner of Samuel Kinder and Brother Landscaping of Bristol, enhancing the family business to include an extensive nursery.

A true Bristolian, he enjoyed sailing, fishing, the 4th of July and fish house punch! Sam was recognized for his service to the local community by The East Bay Association for the Arts, Narragansett Electric Co. and Blithewold. He served on the board of Linden Place and was Tree Warden for the Town of Bristol for decades.
