Robert C. Samuels, Esq., 81 died peacefully Saturday, August 3, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family.  Bob was born on May 14, 1938, in Providence, the son of the late Ralph M. and Dorothy J. (Williams) Samuels.  He was married to the love of his life, Suzanne M. (Whitty) Samuels for 56 years.

He is also survived by his daughter, Robyn E. Zajac and her husband Joseph M. Zajac, and their children, Samuel J. and Abigail S. Zajac all of Harvard, Mass.; son, Gregory R. Samuels and his wife Christine and their son, Chancellor C. Samuels of Mansfield, Conn.; and daughter, Heather A. Machado and her husband Walter Machado and their daughter Sydney R. Machado of Lancaster, Mass.  He was the brother of Elaine (Samuels) Skaist and her husband Dr. Leonard Skaist of Encino, California, and the late Patricia Samuels and William Samuels.

Bob spent his formative years in East Providence, and loved talking about his childhood memories of being a Townie.  After serving four years in the Air Force, he received his bachelor’s from Bryant College and his juris doctorate from University of Connecticut School of Law.  Bob had a long and distinguished career as a corporate attorney with Travelers Insurance Co. in Hartford, Conn., until his retirement in 1996.  Bob and Suzanne resided in Vernon, Connecticut for 37 years until moving full time to Westport, Massachusetts in 2009.

Bob was devoted to friends and family.  He loved spending time with wife, children and grandchildren, and particularly cherished times spent at the beach and golf course.  Bob’s passion was golfing and was proud of his four holes in one and that he was able to score his age last year at 80.

His sense of humor and his ability to find joy and purpose in every day was an inspiration to all.  He will be deeply missed by all and especially as a husband, dad and papa.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers his family suggests gifts in Bob’s memory be sent to Southcoast VNA, 200 Mill Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719.

Arrangements have been entrusted to J.H. WILLIAMS & CO. FUNERAL HOME, 210 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI.  For online messages of condolence, kindly visit www.jhwilliamsfuneralhome.com
