Rita Oakham, 96, Warren

Rita Oakham, 96, died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at home in Warren. She was born November 1, 1918 in Grand Anse New Brunswick, Canada; she was the daughter of the late Frank and the late Anna Theriault. She was the wife of the late Herbert M. Oakham.

Mrs. Oakham was a former member of the Women's Guild of St. Barnabas and the Girl Scouts of America Adult Leader. She was an avid knitter and loved to crochet for her grandchildren and for unwed mothers. She also volunteered for Corpus Christie Carmelites Sisters of Newport.

She leaves her children, Dianna Ruth Oakham of Pawtucket, RI, Maureen O. Hebert and her husband Edgar of Warren, RI, and Rev. Ronald A Oakham, Order of the Carmelites Fathers, Tuscon, AZ. She was the grandmother of Joshua R. Medeiros and his wife Janice, Robert F. Medeiros and his companion Vanessa Pleas; step grandmother of Wendy Hebert, Pam Boisse, Todd Hebert, Jennifer and Edward Dias, Jon and Gabriela Hebert; and great grandmother of Austin Medeiros, Andrew Medeiros, Scott Hebert, Erin Hebert, Brian Hebert, Nicholas Dias, Victoria Dias, Jackson Dias, Calvin Hebert and Kate Hebert.

Mrs. Oakham's family would like to thank her caregivers, Maria, Lucy, Maggie, Alexis, Connie, Felicia and Zaura for the wonderful care they provided to her over the years. They would also like to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice for the compassionate and wonderful care that they gave to Rita over the last few months.

Mrs. Oakham was the sister of the late Raymond Theriault, Rene Theriault, Lawrence Theriault, Eddie Theriault, Paul Theriault, Phillip Theriault, Jeanette Theriault and Ernestine Pecararo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 10 a.m. in St. Alexander’s Church, 221 Main St., Warren. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, in Middletown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Carmelite Fathers 25 Watson Avenue Barrington, RI 02806 or to Beacon Hospice 1 Catamore Blvd East Providence, RI 02914.
