Richard Drew, 87, Riverside

Richard Drew, 87, of Riverside, died September 12, 2019. He was the son of the late Charles and Phyllis Drew of Riverside and beloved husband of the late Jane (Cross) Drew.

He leaves his daughter, Jayne Anderson, and her husband George, of Barrington, two cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Anderson and his loving kitty cat, Tigger. He also leaves his brother, Charles Drew of Rockland, Mass., sister in law, Marjorie Brown of Barton, Vt, three nieces and one nephew.

Richard was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served from 1952 to 1954. He was formerly employed as an assistant manager for McCusker’s Candy stand at Crescent Park for 15 years. Richard was retired from Raytheon in 1992 after a 25 year career as a Manufacturing Engineer. He was a cabinetmaker and avid woodworker, and in 1960 built the house in which he lived until recently.

A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Saint Elizabeth Manor in Bristol for your loving care, compassion and friendship during these past few months.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations to: Saint Elizabeth Manor Activities Fund-South, 1 Dawn Hill Road, Bristol, R.I.. 02809, would be greatly appreciated. Visit smithmason.com for online condolences.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
