Paul Bullock, who ran Bullock’s restaurant for 25 years before renting out his 50 Miller St. location to Stella Blues, wants to get back into the restaurant business. Tuesday night, the Warren Town Council gave him a hand.
The council voted unanimously to grant BV liquor and victualling licenses to Mr. Bullock, who initiated eviction proceedings against Stella Blues’s owners last year. While he said before Tuesday’s meeting that he doesn’t have concrete plans for the restaurant, “I’m trying to get the licenses back to move forward. Maybe something similar to what Bullocks was.”
Mr. Bullock said it’s been a tough time since eviction proceedings against the former Stella Blues were initiated in Sixth Division District Court in Providence. Mr. Bullock said the restaurant owed him more than $5,000 in back rent, and as the court case is still ongoing, he has been unable to get into the restaurant to clean it up and clear it out. Apart from removing food after the restaurant was evicted, he said, he’s been barred by the courts from clearing the place out.
“The logistics right now are basically to get all his stuff out,” he said. “Right now, I can’t touch anything.”
Mr. Bullock opened the restaurant bearing his last name in 1980. Stella Blues opened in the space in 2005 or 2006, he said.
