The East Bay Recovery Center in conjunction with other area non-profit organizations involved in aiding those who suffer substance abuse host the East Bay Rally4Recovery on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Burr's Hill Park.

The local incarnation of the event, which is free and open to the public, takes place from noon-3 p.m. It is part of the larger Rally4Recovery Rhode Island program designating September as Recovery Month around the state.

The East Bay gathering features a recovery expo, free food, speakers, family-friendly activities and a performance by local music legends Neal and the Vipers.

The event is billed as a celebration of the community, a sharing of resources, honoring the hard work that the recovery community does all year to and have fun and dance.

It's actually a weekend spent in Warren for Neal and the Vipers. They're return to town Sunday afternoon, Sept. 28, for a show at The Hometown Tavern on Metacom Avenue beginning at 4 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
