Bristol 4th of July Concert Series

Wet weather doesn't dampen 88th Army Band's performance

Misty rain, eerie fog and a forecast calling for thunder showers, made for a sparse crowd as the Governor’s Own 88th Army Band kicked off of the Bristol 4th of July Concert Series at Independence Park on Thursday night. The R.I. National Guard's band directed by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Todd Garrepy and fronted by vocalist Felicia Baker began the concert with the entire band standing and playing as the fabulous Baker sang the National Anthem.

The versatile band also played selections from "Star Wars," "The Wizard of Oz," "Wicked," 007 and patriotic songs. The wet crowd, some under umbrellas, waved flags and cheered on the band as it moved from musicals to movie pieces to hip hop with vocalists Staff Sgt. Jon Richards.

Concerts over the weekend:
Bad Zepplin and the Merchants of Cool take the stage on Friday night starting at 6:30 p.m.
Jerry Grimo & the East Bay Jazz Ensemble and Reminisce play Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m., and the Colby James Band and the Pat McGee Band play on Sunday starting at 6:30 p.m.
