Rail trail demolition protest planned

Posted

Bicyclists and walkers are planning a “rally to save the rail trail’ to protest a plan to tear up the newly completed Alfred J Lima Quequechan River Rail Trail in Fall River near the Westport line. In its place would be a two-lane road from the end of Father DeValles Boulevard to Brayton Avenue to convenience the businesses in the Clover Leaf Mill development.

The rally will take place at the Brayton Ave. entrance to the trail.

A link in a much longer trail network in the works, organizers say “the Quequechan River Rail Trail is a place for people of all ages and abilities to go walk, play and ride a bicycle without the dangers of coming in contact with motor vehicles. This road will take away that safety and the connection to nature.”
