Pam Lauria stood on the stage at the Barrington Democratic Club on Tuesday night, Nov. 6, and tallied votes for the candidates in each race.
With each Democratic victory, Ms. Lauria, the chairwoman of the Barrington Democratic Town Committee, raised her arms and cheered. The crowd of supporters gathered nearby followed her lead, and cheered even louder.
Later that night, when the victorious candidates gathered on the stage to share a few words, nearly all of them took time to praise the efforts of Ms. Lauria.
Gina Bae and Erika Sevetson — two first-time candidates and the top two vote-getters for Barrington School Committee — said Ms. Lauria was instrumental in the success of local Democrats on Election Night. They also thanked Ms. Lauria for asking them to run.
"Special thanks to Pam.. for putting this family together," said Ms. Bae, referring to the slate of Democratic candidates who ran for office this year.
Michael Carroll secured his seat on the Barrington Town Council by finishing second in voting on Tuesday night. He said Ms. Lauria worked hard throughout the campaign season.
"I think there's an enormous amount of excitement. I really do give tons of credit to Pam Lauria… She's really come through. She got everyone excited," said Mr. Carroll. He added that Barrington Democratic Town Committee meetings are well-attended and the town party has garnered attention from the state's top Democrats.
"So much credit goes to Pam, the passion that she brought to this."
Ms. Lauria is relatively new to the political scene. In 2016 she ran for a seat on the Barrington School Committee. There were three open seats, but Ms. Lauria finished fourth in voting. That missed opportunity became a calling to get more involved, said Ms. Lauria. She began working more with the Democratic Town Committee and, as most candidates were quick to add, was an active contributor to their individual campaigns.
Late Tuesday night as she helped clean up around the Democratic Club, Ms. Lauria said she planned to continue her work as Barrington Democratic Town Committee chairwoman.
