PORTSMOUTH — The sale of 2016 transfer station stickers for Portsmouth residents will begin on Monday, Jan. 4.

Stickers cost $150 for the first vehicle — a $15 increase over the current fee — and $10 for each additional vehicle. They will be available for sale at the Tax Collector’s Office at Portsmouth Town Hall during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Tax Collector’s Office will be open for sticker sales only from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Feb. 6.

The 2016 sticker is good for one year, with a grace period through Jan. 31, 2017. The current sticker will get you entry into the transfer station until the end of January 2016.

To obtain a sticker, you must bring a copy of your valid registration showing you are registered in Portsmouth for each vehicle for which you are requesting a sticker.

Residents with leased vehicles must provide proof of automobile insurance showing their Portsmouth address at which they reside. Cash and checks are accepted. For a small fee, credit cards are also accepted.

The transfer station is for the disposal of residential household waste only. No waste from businesses, contractors, landscapers or any form of commercial or agricultural activity is accepted. Recycling is mandated by state law.

For full details of the program, visit www.portsmouthri.com/182/Transfer-Station-Solid-Waste.

Stickers may be obtained through the mail using the form available on the town’s website and at Town Hall. Mail applications may be deposited in the tax payment drop box at the Town Hall, although the town is not responsible for lost mail applications.

Call the Tax Collector’s Office with questions at 401/683-1214.
