Portsmouth revaluation inspections start next month

PORTSMOUTH — Data collectors will be visiting all town buildings starting next month as part of the state-mandated full revaluation program.

The Town of Portsmouth has hired Vision Government Solutions Inc. to complete the revaluation, according to a press release sent out today from Matthew A. Helfand, the town’s tax assessor/collector.

The reassessment project will establish market value as of Dec. 31, 2016 and will be reflected in the tax bills issued in the summer of 2017, according to Mr. Helmand.

“The project will commence this September with data collectors visiting all buildings to record exterior measurements and conduct interior inspections,” according to the press release. “Data collectors will carry a letter of identification from the Assessor’s Office, a photo ID badge and have their cars registered with the Police Department. All property owners and tenants are respectfully requested to cooperate with data collectors to insure that accurate information is used in the revaluation process.”

Any property owners who have questions concerning the revaluation process should contact the Assessor’s Office during working hours at 401/683-1536.               .

The town will issue further updates as the revaluation process continues throughout the year.
